1- WHAT IS THE INTERNET?

The internet is a global network of computers that allows lots of devices to connect to other devices through a series of communication protocols, using fibre optic cables, copper wires, wireless connections…   WEB BROWSING: Is a system of linked documents or files that are displayed in a browser. This is one of the most popular services. E-MAIL: Is a system which allows users to send messages to each other. NEWSGROUPS: Are spaces for discussing each other's topic suggested. FILE TRANSFER: Quick file transfer using FTP and file sharing on peer to peer. VOICE COMMUNICATIONS: Converts voice into data packets under IP. ONLINE: Radio, television and press. OTHERS: Shopping for a wide range of items and services.                    

2- HOW DOES INFORMATION TRAVELS?

  1- A user types a web address. 2- The router sends the request to the ISP. 3- The request is routed to another machine, DNS server. 4- DNS translates domain names and obtains their associated binary identifiers. 5- The IP protocol sends the information packets to the destination server. 6- The host server executes the request and returns the HTML. 7- The user’s web browser receives the information and processes in order to display.

3- THE ONLINE WORLD

  The internet gives us access to resources and allows us to do things that previously took up a lot of time and required long trips. ONLINE SHOPPING: Is the buying and selling of products or services through an information system.  eGOVERNMENT: Some governments, such as government departments, provide online services to users. Many of them require an identity card. COMMUNICATING: Through videoconferencing as well as chats and forums like Skype, Whatsapp, Telegram.. We can listen to live radio on online radio such as los40.com   SOCIAL NETWORKS: For socialising: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube.. We can share and download information using apps like eMule or Ares.

4- COLLABORATION TOOLS

  Document repositors: Are websites for storing and sharing virtually any type of files and digital information. There are also applications that we can use to access this working information and process these files, we can use them without installing them on our computers. For future computers won’t need huge hard drives; instead, documents will be uploaded to virtual hard drives on the internet, where they can be shared. There are many advantages of this way of working: We avoid errors caused by having multiple versions of the document. Every member of the team works on the same version. Is easier to publish and distribute documents.

5- SOCIAL NETWORKS

  A social network is a structure that allows different types of exchange between individuals and is based on the relationships between members of the network. HORIZONTAL OR GENERAL NETWORKS: Networks with a general purpose such as YouTube, Facebook… VERTICAL OR SPECIALIZED NETWORKS: Networks that connect people for a purpose: - Professional profiles like Linkedin - Education like Ning - For children like Mi Cueva SOCIAL BOOKMARKING: Is a method of tagging, sharing, storing and searching for links on pages about a topic.  We can use it to manage websites. A tag is a keyboard that is associated with an element (photo,video) to describe it and make it easier for other users to find information.

6- EXAMPLES OF DOCUMENT REPOSITORIES

  INSTAGRAM:  Is a social network of uploading photos and videos. We also can apply effects and share them in social networks SNAPCHAT:  Is a messaging app for smartphones that can take pictures and videos, add texts and drawings and send them to contacts. PINTEREST: Is an image-sharing platform that organises images. It is designed to connect the boards created by different users. GOOGLE PHOTOS: Allow users to classify files on their computers or mobiles. It also includes editing tools. FLICKR: Can be used to store photos, share them with others, join groups, make contacts and friends, write comments on photos. It also includes technical tools.   YOUTUBE: Is a popular site for discovering, playing, uploading and sharing videos. It also allows users to communicate with each other. CANVA: Is used to make presentations with design templates, fronts and a lot of resources. SPOTIFY: Is an application for listening to songs. Users can also create lists  

7- COLLABORATION TOOLS: ONLINE OFFICE APPLICATIONS

  There are lots of free online tools that can replace many of the programs we install on our computers. We can use these tools for storing or working online. They also include applications for retouching images, creating presentations, recording videos or audios and also converting and distributing different documents. Some of these applications are google docs, evernote or WPS Office.   ZOHO: Is an alternative office application to Google Docs. It includes a toll call meeting which lets users hold online meetings, share their desktop, use planners… ZCUBES: Is a web platform with a web browser, image processor, text editor and web page editor, drawing program, video player… It allows users to integrate all the tools and interact between different documents.
